Hey, I’m Patrick Mims, a Pacific Northwest portrait photographer drawn to honest presence, quiet emotion, and images that feel like memory rather than performance.

Hey, I’m Patrick Mims, a Pacific Northwest portrait photographer drawn to honest presence, quiet emotion, and images that feel like memory rather than performance.

My approach is documentary at heart: I look for the in-between gestures, the way people settle into themselves, and the details that make a portrait feel personal. I’ll guide when it helps, step back when the moment needs room, and create images that feel natural, grounded, and carefully composed.

Where My Love for Storytelling Began

Where My Love for Storytelling Began

Where My Love for Storytelling Began

Portrait work became meaningful to me because it asks for attention. Not just to a face, but to the feeling around a person — the place, the light, the pauses, and the parts of a story that usually pass too quickly.

Across the Pacific Northwest, I’m drawn to creating portraits that feel both editorial and deeply human: composed with care, but never stripped of the small honest details that make an image last.

My “Why”

My “Why”

My “Why”

Portraits are proof that someone was here exactly as they were — in a season, in a feeling, in a moment that will never repeat.

I’m not chasing perfect poses. I’m chasing the subtle expression after the laugh, the shift in posture when someone finally relaxes, and the quiet confidence that appears when a person feels seen.

That is the work: to notice, preserve, and give those moments back with care.

“He helped us feel comfortable enough to forget the camera was even there.”

Patrick gave us enough direction to feel confident, but never so much that the session felt stiff. The final portraits had this quiet documentary feeling — thoughtful, relaxed, and full of the little details that made the day feel like ours.
